Crowns and Bridges Q & A

Crowns and bridges are custom-crafted dental restorations that repair or replace missing or damaged teeth. Though similar, crowns and bridges have distinct differences:

A crown is a synthetic covering placed on top of a damaged or decaying tooth. It restores your tooth to its near-original shape and size, reducing the risk of additional complications. If you take good care of them, crowns often last 10 years or longer.

Bridges are dental prosthetics that fill a gap in your smile caused by a missing tooth. By filling the gap in your smile, it’s possible to prevent your remaining healthy teeth from moving out of position.
At True Dental Group, getting crowns and bridges takes two visits at least a week apart.

First visit
Before recommending a crown or bridge, your True Dental Group provider conducts an oral exam and takes oral X-rays. If you’re missing a tooth or you have a damaged or decaying tooth, you qualify for a crown or bridge.
Your provider uses an intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your mouth. Afterward, they send your impressions to a laboratory that uses them to create a custom dental restoration.

Second visit
When the laboratory completes your crown or bridge, you return to True Dental Group. Your provider bonds the restoration in place, polishes it, and provides care instructions.
Crowns and bridges are like your teeth in that they collect plaque, food particles, and bacteria. As a result, it’s important to clean and maintain them regularly. True Dental Group recommends:

-Brushing your teeth twice daily
-Flossing your teeth before going to bed
-Avoiding bad habits like chewing on pen caps or biting your nails
-Protecting your crown or bridge with a mouthguard if you play contact sports
-In addition, visit True Dental Group at least two times a year for an oral exam and -professional teeth cleaning. By adhering to these guidelines, your crown or bridge can last for a decade and maybe even longer.
